Fences

Truly is one of the main characters and fences and he has a hard time showing feelings he is very hard when his family and his friends  tried it show affection for example his son Cory asked for love enjoy answers with responsibility  I think Troy could at least show feelings but he so stuck in the past that he doesn't even know what feelings are anymore and he has become his father  problems with Troy's son wanted to have a dream  playing football in it was eventually going to come true .  Troy is hard on his son his family his wife his friends but he is also hard on his self  against the possibility of change .   TRoy's still stuck in the time that a young black man can not move confidently in the direction of his dream that's why he so hard on his son because he feel as though his sign should be out here working and going to school not worrying about football.  The consequences of choice hardness are by no means all negative.  My question is do you feel like it's Troy's age that is not letting him move on from the past that racism that exists  or beliefs

Fences-August wilson

Oedipus and troy the main characters of Oedipus and fences are more alike then what people may believe them to be. Oedipus and troy both supports and lets down their family. Troy does defiantly support his family financially however he's very numb with his feelings does not show the emotion support that his wife and kids may need. Oedipus certainly is an all peoples person and supports his family however he still unknowingly betrays his family. another reason could be how they live. troy and Oedipus both live disjointed in a sense to the world around them, troy because of his background he doesn't fully understand that the world is changing for a reason but hes so stuck in his ways that he doesn't want to hear that. Oedipus is so stuck on why Thebes had a plague and how he would make out with this suffering not knowing that its happening for a reason and that hes the reason why Thebes are suffering from a plague now.

Fences~ August wislon

In Fences by August Wilson one of the main themes is still focused on the race of people. The time the book was set which was in the 1950s America had came a long way from being segregated however things like pro sports was past that. Troy the main character in the play has a son named cory, cory is good in sports. connecting this book to Oedipus can be done because in one scene troy tries to set up corys fate by telling him that hes black so hes not going to ever make it to the big league not knowing that things are eventually going to change and the world is going to become more segregated then ever. Every character in this play is African American and must deal with racism everyday because the south was still pretty much segregated.

Single story

The danger of a single story is dangerous when growing up your exposed to what people would explain to be not false accusations but not the full truth . Just because you know a general fact about a community a religion or even a race doesn't mean every person of that community , religion , or race is the same as the next person around them. Just because a black boy is from Texas or Tennessee or wherever doesn't mean is less of country as the white boy that lives next to him . Just because you see a African person doesn't mean they have tribes and they listen to African because and dance in circles to it. I'm not saying that they may have a different side to them but we take what we see on the outside and judge people based off of what we know or what we are told. Do you think it's a hahbit and that because it's a common thing that it's ok to give people a single story?

Stolen party

In the stolen party heker uses stratification to show the girl and the monkey have a connection by being pets she also shows that when you're in the cage you're usually stuck in it out and you can only do so much wherever the cage goes and how ever big the cage is. It's not a coincidence that the monkey was in the kitchen. But being in a cage is what's important, this is connected to Rosaura because rosaura is stuck in her mother's cage that she can't get out of because she was born into it. Rosaura believe having money and not having money don’t mean people can't be friends “rich people go to heaven too”(Heker 8) rosaura is explaining to her but her mother understands that's not the case. Being born into the help is going to keep you around people that's the help as well and that's what you're going to get used to. Rosaura was the only one allowed to see the pet monkey that was in the kitchen because again unknowingly she wasn't at the party as a guest she was going to be Senora Ines pet. Unfortunately there's no way out of this cage the Rosaura was born into. Do you feel like you would try to venture out and make no friends if you had the mind set as Rosaura when she said rich people go to heaven to? And do you feel like should money matter if that's the case?

Girl

In "girl" she tries to help her daughter by giving her motherly advice  she also tries to scold her at the same time,  Kincaid uses repetition A lot mainly to warn her daughter on not become a slut. In girl  while reading and her explaining to her daughter on the things she suspend to do and the things she wasn't supposed to do. Do you feel like everything she was saying for example how your supposed to iron your fathers pants and shirts so there is not wrinkle is ok? Do you feel like women are brought being taught that tending to a man whenever he want is ok. Yes I feel like we have things that we ware supposed to do for husbands or boyfriends but there's a line that had to be drawn when enough is enough because woman are born maids .
